Users who are already visiting your website on their mobile device can simply be offered an improved mobile version without having to download a separate application.

The brands that seem to benefit most from this are ones that operate retail websites where the site can easily be reformatted or re-skinned using technologies such as HTML 5 and provide a simplified navigation process specially created for the mobile device.

This approach helps to stretch budgets further as the reformatted website will, in most cases, work exactly the same across all the smartphone platforms and saves having to create customer applications for iPhone, Android, Windows, Blackberry and Java handsets.

Brands such as M&S have already benefitted from this approach to mobile with strong results and sales from their mcommerce site which attracted 1.2m unique visitors in its first 4 months.
